Dr. Matthew Hiersche joined Valley Children’s Pediatric Plastic Surgery Department in September 2016 as a board-certified pediatric plastic surgeon specializing in the surgical correction of craniofacial anomalies.

Dr. Hiersche has presented on topics in his field, including general reconstruction and wound care, craniosynostosis repair, and velopharyngeal dysfunction related to 22qDS. He has published his work in peer-reviewed publications such as “Journal of Craniofacial Surgery” and “Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.”

Dr. Hiersche is a member of several professional societies, including the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and American College of Surgeons.

He has provided his plastic surgery skills internationally as a medical volunteer and team coordinator with various organizations, including Operation Good Samaritan and CURE International.

Dr. Hiersche completed his medical degree and residency in plastic surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, where he won the “President’s Award” for excellence in academics and service. He did his fellowship in pediatric plastic surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Hiersche is proficient in German.

In his free time, he enjoys sculpting, woodworking, hiking, participating in triathlons, reading, writing and traveling.
