As a patient of the Maternal Fetal Center, you gain access to neonatal experts in newborn care subspecialties who collaborate with our maternal-fetal medicine specialists to care for your baby.
The board-certified pediatric surgeons and physicians at Valley Children’s understand tiny babies present a unique set of circumstances.
All are trained to treat the special needs exclusive to medically fragile newborns and are experienced in managing the most complex cases with consistently positive outcomes.
If your baby has a known birth defect, such as a cleft lip or heart defect, you will have an opportunity to meet with your baby’s subspecialist and prepare for surgery in advance of your delivery.
We provide opportunities for families to receive treatment closer to home.
In the event your baby requires neonatal intensive care immediately after birth, patients can take comfort knowing Valley Children’s neonatal staff will care for your baby in our various NICU locations around the Central Valley.
We make every effort to keep mom and baby together upon delivery.
If a medical emergency requires your baby to receive the highest level of care, our experienced transport team will safely transfer your newborn to our Regional Level IV NICU in Madera. The skilled NICU nurses and respiratory therapists from Valley Children’s transport more babies – including some of the smallest and most fragile – than any other medical transport team in California.
Upon arrival to Central California’s only Level IV NICU, your baby will be placed under the care of board-certified neonatologists who consult with newborn care subspecialists to support the vast array of care that may be required.
Nationally Ranked Neonatal Intensive Care
Valley Children’s Hospital was ranked as one of the best children’s hospitals in neonatology by U.S. News & World Report for 2023-2024. In a comparative database of neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) nationally, Valley Children’s NICU also ranks among the highest for severity of illness among babies with birthweight of 500 to 1,500 grams, yet we achieve more remarkable results in terms of survival and without severe complications compared to our peers.
