Dr. Monica Lau Katamura joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in 2022. She is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics, and is a Central Valley native.  

Prior to her current role, Dr. Katamura worked at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, the largest community health center in Massachusetts, as an adult medicine primary care internist and pediatrician. She also was an academic Medicine-Pediatrics primary care provider and an adult medicine hospitalist at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, where she served as an assistant professor and clinical clerkship director.  

She is an active member in the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her work and research has been published in journals including Clinical Pediatrics. Dr. Katamura earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. She then completed an internal medicine and pediatrics residency program through Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where she served as Medicine Chief Resident and Chair of the Medicine-Pediatrics Ambulatory Committee.  

She has received various recognitions including Top Faculty Teaching Award, Best Pediatric Resident award, and hospital-based patient care awards. She strives to provide patient- and family-centered culturally sensitive care, and has special interest in generational health education and literacy.  

When she isn’t working, Dr. Katamura enjoys spending time with her family, exploring nature and testing new recipes.
